Thank you to those parents who for took the time to complete the survey at the end of February. We received feedback from a quarter of our parents. Your feedback is important to us. Whilst it is always pleasing to receive positive feedback, we do also appreciate your suggestions as to how we can improve.

As part of our on-going Healthy School initiatives, we are delighted to be able to offer all of our parents / carers free access to the Online Personal Health Management System (OPHMS).

The Inspectors agreed with our judgements that this is a good school with good teaching, a good curriculum and good leadership. We were delighted with the comments about our students, in particular their good behaviour and their enjoyment of school. You will see that the report also praises students’ charity work and the active part they take in school life. I know that during the inspection itself their pride in the school was obvious to all.

The Gilberd School is a good school but we are determined to improve and we welcome the priorities for development identified in the report.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your part in the inspection; the inspectors said the returns on parental questionnaires were much higher than normal and we always appreciate the help and support of our parents.

We look forward to continuing to work with you to make our school the best that it can be.

Procedure for Admission of Year 7 Students

Parents should not normally take their children on holiday in term time. There is no legal right to do so. However, you may apply to the school for leave of absence for up to 10 days. A term time holiday will only be authorised by the school if they believe there are special circumstances which warrant it. (The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006)
