Maths in Action trip 24 March

The plan of the day is as follows:

Students to arrive at the Gilberd School by 7.30am

Coach to leave the Gilberd School at 7.45am

Arrive at the Institute of Education at 10.30am

Session starts at 11am and finishes 4pm

Arrive back to the Gilberd School between 6.30 – 7.00pm

Please note that lunch will not be provided by the host, so students will need to take a packed lunch or buy food in the canteen. Students will also need to be in their school uniform.

Schools Prom Concert

The Schools Prom Concert was held at the Charter Hall on Thursday 18th March. The Gilberd School’s Advanced Vocal group performed in this event along with eight schools and colleges. Our students performed three pieces, they were ‘Run’ by Snow Patrol, ‘Midnight’ by Wilson Pickett and ‘I Wish I was a Punk Rocker’ by Sandi Thom. A joint finale performance of ‘Mamma Mia’ by Abba was played.

Maths Leaders Primary Project - Thursday 18 and 25 March 2010 in Room 30

The plan of the day is as follows:

  • Year 5 and Year 7 students are to meet in the reception between 8.45am – 9.00am.
  • Periods 1, 2 and part of peroid 3 sessions will be held in room 30. From 11.30am -11.45am Year 5 and 7 students will be returning back to their schools.

The Maths Leaders are:

Kayleigh Leatherdale (9GBA)

Sports Relief

For Sports Relief we are holding a non-uniform day on Friday 19th March . For this event we are asking students to dress in a ‘sporting theme’! There will be various activities throughout the day including a rowathon in the dining hall with Miss Sibley and Mr Elliot, with Eddie the Eagle, the Colchester United mascot visiting us at 12pm. There will also be the ‘Gilberd Mile’ on the school field, which starts at 1.40pm. The cost will be £1 per student or £1.50 for a family discount. We hope to see you all there!

Cycle Colchester News

The Gilberd School has been awarded £1,080 as part of Cycle Colchester’s small grants scheme. The aim of the project is to encourage people to take up cycling. The funding will help provide a bike MOT centre and Cytech training for staff to ensure pupils’ bikes are roadworthy.

New Bite Plus Card – Half Price Bus Fares

Colchester has been chosen for a six month trial to introduce a scheme for all young people aged 5 – 19 years offering half price fares on buses. It is available from 1st April 2010 to all young people who live in the Colchester Borough.

Transport For The Year 11 Ball

Due to an error on the Year 11 Ball letter that was sent out to students on Wednesday 3rd March, students will need to provide their own transportation to and from the event. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
